Q: Can I still subscribe to shomi?
A: We will be turning off the ability to subscribe in the near future but for now it’s still available.
Q: Can I still watch shomi?
A: Yes definitely. shomi will remain available to existing members in good standing (meaning free trial and paid subscribers) until Nov 30, 2016?
Q: When on Nov 30 is shomi shutting down?
A: The exact time is not known yet and it may happen at different times across different devices throughout the day.
Q: Do I need to cancel my subscription before Nov 30 to not be charged anymore?
A: If you are a direct customer with shomi, we will not charge your account past Nov 30 and we will refund any days you’ve paid for but cannot use due to the shutdown. E.g. if your anniversary date is the 15th of the month and you pay shomi on Nov 15, you’ll be refunded 15 days of service back to your credit card when we shut down on Nov 30. Please give it 5 – 7 days to show up on your credit card.
If you subscribed via your iTunes account, we are currently working with Apple on what the process will be. This is completely up to Apple as your subscription to shomi is effectively with them (as a reseller) and not with shomi. We (or Apple) will be in contact with you via email, on the specifics in the month of Oct.
Q: How can I contact shomi if I have a question or concern after Nov 30?
A: At shomi.com we will have an email address that you can send your questions to and we will get back to you within 2 business days.
Q: Is any new content coming on the service in Oct/Nov?
A: Unfortunately, no. We may put up a few items but cannot commit to any new content going live. All day and date content will end. There will be no new episodes of our day and date content such as Empire, Jane the Virgin and Fresh off the Boat any longer. Day and date are those shows where we get the new show the day after it airs on TV.
Q: Do I need to uninstall the apps on my devices?
A: We don’t know yet exactly how shomi will be removed from each device. It may be that shomi still appears on your device on Dec 1 but you get an error when you try to load it and you will simply need to delete it from your device. Or it may be that the shomi app is completely gone on Dec 1. We’re working through these questions with each device manufacturer right now.
Q: Is shomi launching on PS3 or any other device?
A: Due to the fact that we are shutting down operations completely on Nov 30, we have decided to not launch shomi on any additional devices. So shomi will not be launched on PS3, any Smart TVs, Roku or any other devices.
Q: I’m a Rogers, Shaw or Source customer. How am I affected?
A: shomi will cease on all devices including the STB on Nov 30. For any billing questions regarding shomi, please reach out to your provider directly. We aren’t able to comment on any billing questions from their customers as the billing relationship is with those partners and not shomi directly.
Q: Why is shomi shutting down?
A: The business climate and online video marketplace have changed markedly in the last few years. Combined with the fact that the business is more challenging to operate than expected, shomi has decided to wind down operations.
